A brief history of furniture
The pre historic furniture was brought into existence when the people of that age learnt the methods of farming and began to settle permanently from being nomads. Some of the earliest known pieces of furniture belonged to 2000 B.C from a village in one of the islands of Scotland. These pieces of furniture like cupboards and beds were made of stone.
Egypt
The ancient Egyptian furniture was made of wood and had adorned the large households and whose walls were painted and floors tiled in colors. The pillows for resting their heads were also made of wood. But those with smaller houses had the furniture made of bricks, but the chests and pegs made of wood.
Greece
The ancient Greek furniture had extremely rich looks and the Greek used wooden chests for storing things and sometimes wooden pegs and hung them on the wall. There were also dressers to display expensive cups. The couches made of wood were also used as beds and these couches were just wooden frames with rope webbing and mats or rugs that lay on top.
The furniture in the eighteenth and nineteenth century
As the civilization of man reached new heights, there were innovations in the furniture as well. The living room furniture of the time was made of oak and was extremely heavy, but with intricate designs carved on them. The designs of furniture began to develop rapidly and each of the countries had their own trademark furniture.
There was a great revival of the furniture designs at almost all of the furniture stores and some of them are the Gothic, Rococo, Neoclassicism etc.

As, the days went by there was a huge transformation in the way of manufacturing and designing patio furniture, office furniture, bedroom and living room furniture. They, unlike the heavy and expensive ancient furniture are inexpensive and light. The modern day furniture has set an example for the most innovative and sleek designs and are way ahead of the usual beds, couches and chairs.
